Finally JNote

All the tailor made excuses would not summarize the reason I waited so long.

Writing my own music was always something that I highly favored over anything else and even if told through a different lens, any explanation would be like climbing the most obvious hurdles and raise eyebrows.

Perhaps I can say a shattered spirit might have been the cause of my human imperfection.  But as I looked around and saw the debilitating ailments of the people around me bringing tears to my eyes, I started to think of the possibility of my expiration date coming without ever truly doing something of great enormity because I simply didn't try. All my music would then be locked away like a big secret, never shared and it hurt my heart to think of all these things. Call me emotion driven but, these are the course of events that set off the earnest effort to press towards one of my many goals to the point where I am today.

Finally JNote

On September 11, 2016, Finally JNote which is an album of seven original tunes by Stephanie Jeannot will be available on Amazon, CDBaby and Itunes. All lyrics on the album were written by Stephanie Jeannot. The music on tracks 1-4 & 7 were produced by Mike LeShore and Fred Simmons. The music on tracks 5 & 6 were produced by Stephanie Jeannot.

This album was independently published and contains child-friendly lyrics that can touch across all cultures. I don’t like to classify myself into any single genre but if I were to pick one, I would call it R&B/Soul.  

With the gravity of the situation at hand, I wanted to give you all a little taste of what to expect in hope that you will head over to the aforementioned websites and download my music. It will be listed under my name which is Stephanie Jeannot.

The unofficial end of summer influenced my direction last night and I found myself trying a different kind of mix featuring different sounds of carnival music which will be airing throughout the weekend on Medgar Evers College Community Radio. Medgar Evers College Community Radio is a 24/7 on-line radio station from the studios of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY which features cross-cultural talk and music programs. Jazz on the JNote just happens to be one of those shows.

At first, the show was started while attending Medgar Evers College. I was writing my undergraduate college thesis on the music of jazz and racism, and I felt that I had enough interesting points on this subject to discuss jazz, as well as a plethora of jazz music pieces that had an effect on me, featured in my music library. I wanted to be a part of the jazz culture and thankful for the opportunity of being a contributor to the continuation of the spreading of the jazz culture for just over a year now.  I am happy to invite you all to send comments and suggestions for this show, even if it is to let me know about new music that you would like to hear played within the time frame of the show to jazzonthejnote@yahoo.com

I am always seeking new ideas to add that will take me out of the box in which I am currently enclosed. Change, in my opinion, often serves as great lessons, and I thank you in advance for those who will chime in and feed me new ideas.

It was the first Tuesday of my summer musical residency at Maliblu Oyster Bar in Lido Beach, NY and I did not know what to expect except that I would be sharing the stage with one of the best keyboardists in NYC who happened to be a mentor of mine named Wayne Holmes. It was going to be a duet and we were going to get through each set, sparking ideas based on the mood of the crowd and the night as it evolved.

I was thrilled beyond belief at the music, and the atmosphere. Imagine! All the positive feelings that can be experienced when you follow your passion.

The First Night

In light of the scorching weather that lied ahead of us, I gambled on the idea that maybe the two of us could both wear white and red to be on common ground. And we did!

On the third week, things up a bit and I was joined by a guitarist, Clyde Bermingham and a keyboardist, Traviso Milner. I guess you might consider me bragging a bit, but to have played with such amazing talent as what they showed me, leaves me in such a festive state of being. I am boasting about it because I can’t help but to celebrate the fact that the best of my summer days was surrounded by music.

I must say that the Maliblu sessions that happened each and every Tuesday were awesome and as the summer comes to an unofficial end, so does my love affair with playing on their awesome stage after eight fantastic weeks, as Maliblu is really more of a cool, summer hangout spot.

The Last Night

The last night ended a little differently than I had expected. I was joined by Melvin Palmer on guitar, Traviso Milner on keys, Carolyn Cole on Congas and a host of their phenomenal musicians like saxophonist Marc Narcisse, vocalist Deboralynne Cole, keyboardist Vince Coleman and more who stopped by, jammed with us and had me fighting back tears at how beautiful everything sounded. I felt like I was being showered with love and it was awesome.

Now, I am taking an attentive gaze at the future. I am realizing that it is the tiny leaps you take every day that generates joy within. I am excited and looking forward to the sizzles of tomorrow.

Break out the flag and your water and make sure you keep watch of your surroundings including your distance from the float. Representing Ayiti to the fullest. How about you?

I cannot believe we are once again about to jolt right out of the summer season into the fall in just a few weeks but while we still have summer season days to muddle through, I want to thank you, more than ever, for when we had the opportunity to cross paths and for sharing some of the most memorable moments of summer with me. You give me the confidence to stand bravely in faith and to leave the worries that often rip through me behind with joyous abandon.

But I am not simply writing to feed you with empty words. Today, I feel like an archivist, looking back at all the times you were there and giving me your wonderful support and I wanted to acknowledge you for it. I am still manacled to the smiles and great memories that you shared with me, on each and every occasion. You keep me drumming ahead and though sometimes I get distracted by the possibilities of the promising potentials for the future that lies ahead, I wanted to take the time out to say thank you for being the beautiful people in my life.

Without you, this road on which I travel would be extremely frustrating and unbearably lonely. There is no way I could have ever accomplished growing into the person I am becoming without you.

And so, with the hope of things to come, I look forward to hearing from and seeing more of you in the upcoming months and I wanted to share with you my bounty of fruit:

Upcoming Performances:

 On Tuesday, August 30, 2016, The JNote Trio (Stephanie Jeannot on vocals, Traviso Milner on keys, Cylde Bermingham on Guitar) will perform live at Maliblu Oyster Bar located at 1500 Lido Blvd in Lido Beach, NY (Exit M10 off the Meadowbrook Pkwy). It is a night of music, seafood and drink specials and fun. This is a family, friendly restaurant which is open to the public and free to all who would like to be present at this event.

On Saturday, September 10, 2016, I will be the featured vocalist at this year’s Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival located on Dekalb Avenue and South Oxford Street in Brooklyn, NY. On October 8, 2016, I will be performing with the Bartlett Contemporaries at their Live the Magic Dinner & Dance Party at the Family Life Center located off of Linden Blvd and Merrick Blvd in Queens, NY and it will be a fantastic event.

  

Great news:

I am excited to announce that I will be releasing a forthcoming album in the next few weeks. The title of my project is Finally JNote which will feature on it, seven original works and I can’t wait to let you all hear some of the music.

I am also excited to announce that I will be doing my first tour this year overseas in Russia during the month of October. Please keep me in prayer as this is the first time for me doing anything as different as this but I am ready.

I am part of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and I have entered in four different jazz renditions of songs that Sarah Vaughan has sung at one point in her beautiful life. 1930s Style Swinging at the Archways of DUMBO Brooklyn

My favorite movie is "Stormy Weather" and to see the Lena Horne type swing dance scenes happening before me, is indescribable. 

This is so 1930s-ish. This is so music. Wow! Thankful to The Harlem Swing Society for allowing me to be a part of this. Thank you DUMBO for the cool pics.

Summertime, Archways & JNote Music

Wow! Thank God for the protective cover of the archway to allow us to sing outdoors in the "summertime," rain or shine; even through rain, thunder, lightning and sounds of the D train above us Down under the Manhattan Bridge. I've been to a few concerts in the rain, holding up an umbrella just to see artists I like. Ironically, today was mine.

Grateful to the Harlem Swing Society for using me for this cool summer outdoor concert in my hometown, Brooklyn and to the awesome musicians that killed it on every song. Love you all.

It's August and I am smiling because we still have a lot of 

summer left before the weather starts changing and we are 

back to wearing sweaters again. But Thank God for the days 

we can chill outside, barbecue or swim in the pool with 

family and friends.  But even on those days, it is a chance 

that we take on going outside because you  never know 

what each day will bring.
