When Performing My Own Song

One thing I never get tired of as an artist who writes songs and sings, is getting into the groove of my own song.

I have been singing ever since I was just a tiny itty bitty person and there's a great feeling when I get to sing and I am sharing the lyrics and melody of a song that I wrote. But then to see folks singing back with me is always a great experience as it was recently at Essence Bar & Lounge where I got a chance to share my song and like every other time singing my song, it was a moment that I enjoyed a lot. You can check out the performance here: https://youtu.be/b25wTmICfNw

There is no doubt that I love to sing. It is a passion of mine and one of my favorite things to do in this world. I want to share my passion with you all and so, if you are free and have time to come and celebrate my life and birthday with me, I would so love it if you would join me on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 3PM to 7PM
It will be held at the Russian Samovar located at 256 West 52nd Street between 8th and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. It is an open jazz jam and will feature myself on vocals, Danny Dalelio on keys and Donald Nicks on bass. I also invite all singers and musicians to come and join into the musical fun. Bring your instrument and heart to do what is in your heart. Hopefully I'll see you there.

It's sagg season and I'm excited to have been kept another year and I am looking forward to celebrating. God is so awesome!

My Dad Two Thumbs Upped MY Song

I am a singer and songwriter who loves in Brooklyn, NY. I have been writing songs for a very long time. My writing journey started with poetry and since then, I have found myself dabbling in other genres of writing and songwriting seems to have become one of those things I fully immerse myself into the most.

My father surprised me the other day by telling me that he had been enjoying watching my YouTube Channel and that my original song that I penned, "Wherever You Are" is superb.

http://www.youtube.com/sj1and0

"Wherever You Are" is track number 5 off of my first ever musical release entitled Finally JNote. All lyrics, music, and vocals on the original tune are by Stephanie Jeannot and can be found on CDbaby if you are interested!

It was so unexpected to hear such a warm compliment that just inspired me in so many ways; especially coming from my dad. What a blessing to have heard it! It is weird but compliments coming from my parents when my music or anything that comes out of my spirit is concerned, still makes me feel like that was the one word of confidence I was waiting to hear to know that I am doing alright!

As I think about that, I wonder about my younger cousin who a few days after Christmas committed suicide and left us in mourning. Maybe all he needed was a good word of confidence to feel like he was okay. But, one never knows and yet, it is still hard to comprehend what he might have been going through. Wherever you Are cuz, I hope that you have found peace with yourself.

I did not expect people to enjoy "Wherever You Are" as much. This is the first song I have ever performed internationally and wherever I was singing it, I noticed people were singing along and it is always a pleasure to see people reacting to these lyrics. If you are interested in knowing the lyrics, you can check them out here: http://www.songlyrics.com/stephanie-jeannot/wherever-you-are-lyrics/#disqus_thread

I recently had the opportunity to perform this song with my band, The JNote Band, and as usual when performing with them, it was bursting with energy, great sound and a whole lot of fun.

On bass was my twin brother, Mark Payne; I call him twin because we celebrate our birthdays on the same day. And on drums was Richie Johnson. On keys was Prrrl. On vocals we had Jazz E Matt, Chynnah Doll, Nico and me singing my lyrics to the song. The live music photograph from this performance was taken by Laurence Sparks. Our performance was at Shrine World Music Venue which is located in Harlem, NY.

I invite you to please check out out this performance. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/OCw3KDKnguU

I would love to hear what you think! Please leave me a comment, a good word, or even a song that you think might suit my voice that you think I should try. I always appreciate the idea of enhancing my awareness and knowledge about music. It was a pleasure convening with you today. Hope that we can do it again soon. God bless and thank you for stopping by my blog!

S is for Singing My Song

I had an opportunity to get on the stage with JNote Band at Shrine World Music Venue to do a concert featuring all original music.

It is not often that I get to do something like this and so when the opportunity arose, it felt really good to focus on lyrics that I brought to life in a song. One of the many songs I sang was "I Am The One" which is the first of seven tracks on the album Finally JNote with lyrics by Stephanie Jeannot and music by Mike LeShore.

I hope that you will take the time to check out the live performance of the song here: https://youtu.be/7PV_yItyIZA

Hope you enjoyed watching the live rendition of the song with JNote Band. It was a fun night of music and just being able to express myself and to share my songwriting with people willing to listen makes a difference for me and I am grateful for it.

NYIAS
Ironically, it was an eventful day the whole entire day. I had just left Girls Night Out at the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center and that event set the tone for my drive on the stage.

Anything to keep the wheels turning and to put my energy into full gear. If you liked the song, check out the original song on CDBaby, and maybe it will resonate with you enough to want to download it.

Thank you for checking out my blogpost!

Wherever You Are

It was once seen as a motivational state for me when my guy would come over and we would get into the midst of creating music.

I had built a little studio in my basement and in the midst of my reality., it was one of the hottest creation stations in Brooklyn, NY. We would come together and in the nuance of emotion, conceive new music that would someday develop into a song worth sharing.

When lyrics storm, the droplets of words add a measure of fun into my world. If you do not know what I am talking about, during the spring, go outside in the rains of April without an umbrella and dance in it.

I liked him because he was a pretty, honest individual. We vibed together intellectually deep and it always added color to my dullness. We could spend hours together writing, playing the piano, grabbing the guitar and strumming in a new track to the bundle under the scaffold that would soon be built into a song. And then he’d leave. And as soon as he left my foyer area and I shut the door behind him, I started to miss him.

There are some things and people that I give narrow attention but he had all my focus. I would experience enflamed anxiety as if I had not seen him in months, though he was just with me 30 seconds ago.

If music is a compilation of human tears, then my song “Wherever You Are” is the pool that I was wading in for a minute and then drowned me into a new melody to sing. For it was on one of those occasions where he left and I started missing him that this song was written.

The words illustrate the feeling which I experienced at that single moment. You can only imagine how good it felt to let my thoughts out with piano splashes on a blank track. The lyrics which focus on the basis of love came directly after.

If you liked the little performance clip captured in Novorossiysk, Russia of me singing my song with the Sergey Koronev Project, which was a moment of pure pleasure I must say, please add the full length tune to your Apple Music playlist here: https://itun.es/us/I2kLeb?i=1150594893

Travel and Love Wherever You Are

When you disembark on a journey that you have never been, don’t just accept the image of what has been told. Instead, explore the possibilities, gain a visual, discover new truths, make social bonds and find the commonalities of the people wherever you are. You’ll be tickled more by it.

If you stay present moment oriented while you are there, you will not jump to conclusions about what might or might not be and instead you will find ways to inhale the environment like you would oxygen by going with the natural flow of the experience.

Let the surroundings resonate with you while navigating your way around. Try to make sense of where you are camped from a different vantage point other than the stigmas. You will find that the people you meet seem very familiar and are not that different than you. Just bare the fact that we are all a result of our surroundings and we all get on with our days in our own personalized fashion yet, these are not things that should prevent us from loving each other as we are. We can still bring people smiles and capture the hearts of many while doing what we can with what we have while tackling life with the uniqueness we all showcase in our own individual way.

It’s crazy to think of the multitude of responsibilities I had to carry on just to do what I love to do the most. Though it was taking the familiar path of singing before a crowd, I was being pushed outside of the comfort zone because I was no longer in my home court where I had grown accustomed to performing. I had to deal with the freezing cold temperatures that NY doesn’t always get. I had to be able to intentionally communicate with folks who spoke in a different language than my knowing. I had to professionally work with all my heart whether I was at 100 or feeling under the weather. And I had to know the difference between being in a place where it is a party everywhere and always attitude as opposed to being in a place where I am working. I had to be able to stay centered and think clearly even if I got wounded in the field or was met with condescension. I had to believe in God’s ability and have faith in the journey that he lead me on.

I wasn’t chasing happiness however; I was experiencing it. I was walking the atmosphere of a place I had never seen and am still recovering from the potency of it. Experience changes the essence of who we are because you are better able to form your own opinions of the world. You get a taste of it for yourself. To me, it causes positive change. And the fact that I was doing what drives my soul is in fact one of the greatest honors of my life. Each moment was a moment of growth on my humble first steps into the world of music touring and each moment to me as precious as gold.

As I backed away and came back to my reality, I realized there is so much to love. The rhythms and sounds of the unthought of dimensions I was fortunate to see stays spinning around in my mind. Love for it resonates with me. I love to love the simple idea of planting my feet on different grounds around the world. Based on that, I know that the
best is yet to come.

Today is songwriter Wednesday. I wrote this song "Wherever You Are" and had the pleasure of performing it live at Ufa Jazz Club in Ufa, Russia. I think that you can find a reason to love something about wherever you are positioned in the world when you are where you are. And so, I dedicate the song to all you lovers of travel who inspire me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, photos and stories of your travels. God bless you all!

Thank you so much for checking out my blog post!

Happy November

Hi everybody. Happy November! Hope you have had a fantastic start to the autumn season. Mine was a bit exciting. I spent it doing my first ever music tour and it was in Russia.

I did a ten-city tour in Russia performing jazz, pop and some original music in the following cities:

1. Wilson Jazz Festival in Krasnodar
2. Novoross Jazz Club in Novorossiysk
3. Bukowski in Rostov
4. London Music Hall in Sochi
5. A private event in Geledzhik
6. Ever Jazz Club in Yekaterinburg
7. Pravila JAzz Club in Perm
8. Archangelisk Museum in Archangelsk
9. Tatarstan Philharmonic in Kazan
10. Ufa Jazz Club in Ufa

It was a wonderful experience that I am so happy to share with you all. I had always dreamed about singing with an orchestra and I was able to see that day come to fruition. I was also excited to perform some of my original music for the first time ever on an international stage.

I had not know until that moment that people all over the world had known of my music and had been listening to it, including this one teacher who told me she loved my song "Time Machine" and asked my permission to teach it to her students as a way of helping them to learn English.

What an honor. Moments like that will never slip from my memory. I invite you all to check out my song "Time Machine"  which is one of the seven tunes off of my debut album Finally JNote which was recently released to the general public on September 11, 2016.  You can also hear the entire album on Spotify or Itunes; keyword: Stephanie Jeannot.

Thank you so much for all of your support and have an excitingly, wonderful day.

Wherever You Are Live in Novirossiysk

I got to perform an original song of mine for the first time ever on an international stage and it left me with the most amazing feeling ever.

The song "Wherever You Are" is a song that I wrote and produced which is featured on my latest release Finally Jnote. What a cool experience to do something like that on a world stage. I performed it Sunday evening with the Sergey Koronev Project at the Novoross Jazz Club in Novorossiysk, Russia and it felt for me almost like falling in love. God is good.

Please check out a bit of the footage from the live performance here:

My First Ever Tour

Over 5000 kilometers away and my fingerprints are all over this place. I have been dancing to the tune of the Russian life and I can actually say that these moments will remain in my mind and in my heart forever.

This old vintage chick has seen the most spectacular views, tasted some of the most fantastic of Russian dishes, played on some amazing stages and worked with some of the coolest musicians that Russia has to offer.

I am doing my first ever tour and my first ever trip to anywhere in Europe and my first ever tour happens to be a ten-city tour in Russia. And also for the first time ever, I have sung my original material on an international stage.

The last few days have been amazing. Here are a few photos to summarize the past three days.

From meeting drummer Dennis Chambers, seeing him play, seeing the craziest posters with my name and face on it and performing on stages I've only ever dreamed at the Wilson Jazz Festival in Krasnodar and at the Novorosso Jazz Club in Novorossiysk with some of the coolest musicians in Russia, it has been the most amazing of three days ever; and with more to come.

Excited!

Here and There Throwbacks Tweeps!

Last week I tweeted two things on twitter that I want to share.

On the first one, I wrote “this video shoot got me like Oooh Oooh!” Here and the on the second one, I wrote “All of a sudden I'm a shoeaholic again; these shoes though, definitely ain't for walking” There.

And so, I did a video shoot for one of my songs off the "Finally JNote" album and executive director and producer of the video, Keisong Powell, had us sprinkled about the oasis of Jamaica Queens, NY and we put our gentle focus on shooting a car scene with me driving this beautiful, convertible Lexus through the busy traffic of the Van Wyck expressway with a camera mounted on the side. Imagine driving someone else’s expensive vehicle which is delicate and though you are used to using your heavy foot to rear through the streets like a stray bullet, you have to drive like a novice avoiding all sharp edges and with hopes that the camera mounted on the side will not fall and break.

I had the perfect shoes on for it though; these beautiful and sexy heels that you can only walk in for so long but for driving, lol, you could have your foot pumping the gas all day.

We got through the first stretch of the video for my song "Time Machine" and it was an amazing shoot and I am excited. If you have not heard my song “Time Machine" yet, you can take a listen to it on Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/track/6PX6lWw1RWc115RkjmU72I

I look forward with confidence at the day when I can actually share with you the official music video for it coming soon.” Thank you for reading my post inspired by a writing prompt by Mamakat. Always a great way to get started in the writing process and I am thankful that you took the time to read it.

God Bless!

Move It All Around

I love experiencing the excellency of the completion of a long work week. And here we are at Friday and it feels almost like experiencing nothing but blue skies. Thank God it’s Friday!

A day like this for me sparks passionate fires. Here is an idea to get you ready to toil through the night on the dance floor. Don’t spend your weekend chained to what you didn’t do while at work and what is left to do that you just couldn’t get to.

You are still an outstanding leader, even when the highways of life take you away from your clear purpose, to experience moments of relaxation with the beautiful family and loved ones in your life. A good custom to exercise into your life would be to simply letting go and enjoying the weekend so that when you return to work, you will be well rested and ready for battle like a mighty warrior.

So, as you begin to dissipate the crowd of to-do items from you schedule as completed, perhaps my song “Move it All Around” can help to elate your thoughts to the celebration of victoriously enduring the week.  “Move it All Around” is a song about vacating the work scene on one of those days we are yelling TGIF, when we can change the pace of things by having a good time on Friday nights after a long work week and enjoying time with friends on the dance floor. It is #4 on my new cd Finally JNote, and I hope you will take the time to listen to it here and that the song captures your attention and flutters in your heart. If you like it, please like and comment on it on youtube so that I can know that it is relevant to you.  Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5vXbYqvnv0

Thank you for listening everyone and I wish to you a weekend filled with love, the beautiful things in life and the pouring down of blessings as numerous as the stars in the sky.

By the Way!

Tune in this Sunday, September 25, 2016, for my radio show Jazz on the JNote which will air from 7PM to 8PM on The English Connection Media as we celebrate the life and music of the legendary jazz saxophonist, John Coltrane who would have celebrated his 90th birthday if he were alive today.  He is still here in spirit though leaving a legacy and a work load of music worth listening to.

Please join me for beautiful jazz and talk, and on the English Connection Media from 7-8PM.

Here is the link: http://mixlr.com/the-english-connection-media/  to listen to this week's show.

Hope that you will have radio blaring with us.

"Finally JNote," Stephanie Jeannot's debut album is on Spotify!

I am still in bedazzlement to loosely define as real the fact that my debut album, a full album of my original works is out in the universe. Finally JNote is now available on CDBABY, ITunes and many other on-line places where music is sold.

It feels almost like one of those dreams that take an erotic turn. You are sleeping in this peaceful bouquet of dandelions type of slumber and all of a sudden you have a chanced encounter with that special somebody who to you is like pure gold and the silence of your celibacy is changed to exciting turbulence and smothering of kisses that disrupts the mundane routine of your life. Boom! And here we have the marriage of one of my goals and my interests.

I have a CD with amazing cover art by Linda A Strobert and music by myself and other great producers like Mike LeShore and Fred Simmons from New York, that when you pop in to your cd player, shows my name and everything. All lyrics by Stephanie Jeannot. When I say this truth for me leaves me unable to avoid love’s birth, I mean that it would be too great a threat to not celebrate myself and be happy with my decision in completing this independent project.

If you should ever see me driving in your vicinity, you will probably hear my booming system with my music blaring from it halfway down the street, like you would at one of my live concerts. I ask you to fade into my world just a little bit. Would you take the time to listen to my sounds of life?  Finally JNote is on Spotify! Would you kindly visit the link, listen, subscribe and if any of the songs should strike you as sublime or get you up dancing on the rough, wooden dance floor, please support my independent effort and download the songs. Here is the link: https://open.spotify.com/album/5uDZk9EWu8Ns8gCqrUKTXH

With integrity of heart and uprightness, thank you for flooding my blogpost with your eyes. That joy may grow wild like a weed in the garden throughout the entirety of your week. Have a great one everybody!

Finally JNote

All the tailor made excuses would not summarize the reason I waited so long.

Writing my own music was always something that I highly favored over anything else and even if told through a different lens, any explanation would be like climbing the most obvious hurdles and raise eyebrows.

Perhaps I can say a shattered spirit might have been the cause of my human imperfection.  But as I looked around and saw the debilitating ailments of the people around me bringing tears to my eyes, I started to think of the possibility of my expiration date coming without ever truly doing something of great enormity because I simply didn't try. All my music would then be locked away like a big secret, never shared and it hurt my heart to think of all these things. Call me emotion driven but, these are the course of events that set off the earnest effort to press towards one of my many goals to the point where I am today.

Finally JNote

On September 11, 2016, Finally JNote which is an album of seven original tunes by Stephanie Jeannot will be available on Amazon, CDBaby and Itunes. All lyrics on the album were written by Stephanie Jeannot. The music on tracks 1-4 & 7 were produced by Mike LeShore and Fred Simmons. The music on tracks 5 & 6 were produced by Stephanie Jeannot.

This album was independently published and contains child-friendly lyrics that can touch across all cultures. I don’t like to classify myself into any single genre but if I were to pick one, I would call it R&B/Soul.

With the gravity of the situation at hand, I wanted to give you all a little taste of what to expect in hope that you will head over to the aforementioned websites and download my music. It will be listed under my name which is Stephanie Jeannot.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my blogpost and I look forward to connecting with you once again in the near future.

God bless!
