World Love is the Matter

Did the Governor say that today is day 96 of the quarantine? That is so crazy to me. We started off 2020 and my thoughts were that this was going to be a great year and somewhere in the midst of it, I was wishing it would be 2021.

But nonetheless, we are here and the fact that we are still here is a blessing, though we have lost so many along this journey.

Quarantine is interesting. I guess I never have had a problem with quietude. I think that is a musician thing maybe.

I have spent so much time lately practicing my piano and working on music and a new forthcoming project that if God is willing, I will be able to share with you at some point in the upcoming month. But for now, here is one of the first cuts from "The Stephanie Jeannot & John Mueller Project."

The song is entitled "Love is the Matter." All lyrics and music by Stephanie Jeannot and John Mueller. It is a song to promote the idea of world love and unity.

You can check out the full length song here: https://youtu.be/jNhGBWp1WII via @YouTube.

God bless you all and be safe out there!

100 Different Songs by 100 Different Artists and a Potpourri of Styles and Genres From All Around the Globe

The idea of finding 100 different songs, each from different artists was not an easy challenge; but I like challenges and so, I did it.

Music Choices

How do you know if you like an artist if you never listen to their music? And how do you know which song is your favorite from the artist if you only listen to one song?

And how do you know that you will not enjoy the quality of sound just because it is not on vinyl? And how do you know if you will not enjoy a genre of music if you never give it a chance?

ION Profile LP Vinyl-to-MP3 Turntable

I know a good amount of indie artists and that made the challenge to finish this newly created playlist a little bit easier because I got a chance to finally and completely indulge in their sounds; some of them for the first time and that was a joy to hear. But then there were some artists that I had never heard of and just came across on some of the social media networks and it was like opening up another world into music and I just loved it. Took a while to get to 100 but finally; I did it!

My Top 100

So here it is, my Top 100. The challenge got me into listening to more music that was not already in my music library which is my usual thing and that was cool because it forced me to break out of the force field of routine.  You can check it out on spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/user/22hsqdduuzk6igxvrtw5l6iiq/playlist/3FFUhnNn9IAK2x2YBBEHdg

If you are looking for some new sounds to check out, put this playlist on and just let it play out. You’ll hear 100 different songs by 100 different artists and a potpourri of different styles and genres from all around the globe.

Unlimited Love for Singing My Originals

As artists, we sometimes default to singing cover tunes because we have grown accustomed to loving the artists who we look up to so much, that their songs linger in our hearts and we want to sing them.

It becomes second nature to get knocked into a groove of a familiar tune rather than to splash our own color into the singing experience and to sing something that came from our own pen. I will admit, it is still an ocean of fun for me and very inspiring at that, whenever I get on stage and share a song with an engaging audience, whether it is a cover tune or an original; and I have had many inspiring moments.

I flashback to exactly three years ago today when a fellow musician, Lenny Underwood, blessed me with the opportunity to join him on stage with the legendary Jennifer Holliday, and I was asked to perform a duet with her before the Jackie Robinson Foundation award recipients at the Waldorf Astoria.  That moment was unforgettable and still bedazzles me every time a Facebook “on this date” shows up and reminds me that this event actually took place in my life.

Other inspiring moments include, performing live at the Great Adventures Theme Park, releasing my musical project Finally JNote, traveling to Russia and singing at a music festival in Krasnodar, creating original video content for a visual component to my lyrics,
and just recently something generated the most positive emotion in me that I have ever had.

For the first time ever in my life, I performed before my peers, a concert of all original music and it felt as good as being a shoe-aholic in a shoe store on a shopping spree.  I was able to share the tone of my existence with a live audience. I shared the frame of my culture through sound and vision. I shared a piece of who I am like I never had in my experience and it felt great to finally do it with the personalized touch of my own lyrics and melodies.

I have sung my original tunes live prior to that moment, but always wedged in between a cover tune. I was able to grab the attention of my entire audience with my own, creative works. I had been building up for a moment like that all my life and finally, that moment came. All I can say is, I cannot wait to do it again with the JNote Band. Looking forward to the next time.

My favorite moment of the night was for the first time ever,  performing my song Love No Limit,  written about the experience of seeing the world with your own eyes to separate myth from facts when it comes to loving a people. It was mostly inspired by research I conducted when first starting my college thesis and seeking information on language and different dialects  of so-called "bastardized languages," Latin American Literature (more so the concepts of magical realism), and my most recent international trip which was to Russia. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/Ehbsut02E_g

The lyrics are by me, Stephanie Jeannot and the music is by Paul Garrod. Singing this song mostly felt great because I was able to do it on a platform with the JNote Band, in a flow of all original music and that is what made the night memorable for me. Only God!

Toujour Là by Stephanie Jeannot.

I chose English as a college major because I thought it would make me a better songwriter.

Funny thing is I am of Haitian descent and French is the official language of Haiti. Yet still, I am not the best at the language but grateful to have learned bits and pieces of it. It is important for me to know my culture and to take part in my makeup.

I had to take a French class and as a project for it, I wrote this song: Toujour Là by Stephanie Jeannot.

I produced it using Sonar Professional and I hope you will listen to it on Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/stephanay-jnote/toujour-la-by-stephanie-jeannot

Jazz on the Jnote: Recap of MEC Jazz Ensemble at Jazzy Jazz Festival

“I strongly encourage listening to the radio

to hear something you haven't heard before.

It's a very healthy thing to do. It's strange:

unless you reload your iPods every couple

of weeks, you're listening to and recycling

the same music all of the time. I'm serious.

Listen to your radio station.”  - Alvin Lee

I am excited to announce that this Sunday, August 2, 2015, the show Jazz on the Jnote, which I produce and also radio host, will be airing on WNYE 91.5 FM via Medgar Evers College Radio. Please turn your radio dials to 91.5 FM at 6PM for a recap of the Medgar Evers College Jazz Ensemble’s live performance at the Dr Mary Umolu Jazzy Jazz Festival that took place this past Friday, July 24,, 2015.

The Medgar Evers College Jazz Ensemble was founded in 2005 by Professor of music education at Medgar Evers College who is also the ensemble’s leader, director, trumpeter and pianist, Professor Roman G Mitchell.  Over the course of time it transformed from a group primarily of musicians to a group that now features vocalists.

The radio show will feature somewhat of a condensed sound feed of the music performed by this wonderful group, as well as interview segments of some of the their fans and audience members answering the question, “What is Jazz?”

Slideshow

While you are waiting to hear some exciting moments that happened during the jazz ensembles performance on July 24th, 2015, perhaps you might be interested in checking out some of the still shots and frames that are included in the following slideshow now on youtube and featuring different selections than that which will be shared on the air on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 6PM.  Check it out here: https://youtu.be/krBGcUJao1o

Stephanie Jeannot at 2014 TCS NYC Marathon, Brooklyn NY

with Carl Orlando and Resia
It was a cold day in New York City on November 2nd, 2014, but thank God for the energy to bring warmth to the runners, running in the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon.

While runners were running,  many musical performers were out there with them, providing a taste of rhythm to their foot-to-the-pavement melody.  What a great way to add a little warmth to the 30°  weather runners were experiencing that day! Orlando Enterprise Entertainment was one of those entertainment groups which featured myself as well as artists Resia and Yeshua; thankful to Carl Orlando for the opportunity to share my talents.

The following is a short medley of  my performance from that day. I'd like to invite you to watch the performance by either clicking on the link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmOn7ZVPnf4 or by watching the clip that is embedded below.

What a blessing to have seen things of this sort, that I hadn't seen before and to have been a part of such an amazing experience. Thank you for checking out my blogpost and for watching the youtube video of my performance.

Have a wonderful week everybody!

Harmony

There is something about harmony that I just love!

Stacked up waves of beauty all intermingling together beautifully to create one beautiful sound.  And when you take harmony in, it just soothes.

That was the idea I had when writing the song "Harmony."

In my opinion, there is nothing greater than singing and music. What I love to do most is to be on the stage and performing before a crowd. These are the things that bring harmony to my life. These are the things for me, that bring peace.

And so, when speaking of music and how music itself is the subject of most of my original material,  there is always an essence of instrumentation, melody and/or all things that pertain to music when I write.

True, "Harmony" is the title and it is a love song, but love in itself can also be an harmonious thing if it is right. And so, here we have it; the song that I was speaking about that I'd like to invite you to listen to.  It is currently on my SoundCloud account and here is the direct link to it. https://soundcloud.com/stephanay-jnote/harmony

If you are interested, I have several songs on SoundCloud besides "Harmony" which can be accessed by visiting https://soundcloud.com/stephanay-jnote Follow me and I'll follow back. You can also put your SoundCloud link in the comments below if you'd like for me to visit just in case I missed it.

Thanks a million for stopping by and for checking out my post.  Please enjoy the rest of the weekend and blessings for the week ahead.

The Story Behind "Crocheted"

Ideas for songs come to me frequently and so most of the time, you might catch me with a pen and a pad in my hand. I get inspired by songs I hear on my iPod, things I see on the train or bus and real life experiences. Such was the case with my song "Crocheted.First let me give you a background about me and crocheting.

Back in 2002, I saw a friend of mine crocheting at her desk during a work break and was really impressed with the art of it. Mostly because, I always saw my beautiful mother crocheting in the house and so I wanted to learn. And so I did and turned it into a business called Hand-Made Originalz.

I made mostly hats and scarves and would sell my items at street fairs. That same year at a street fair in Brooklyn, NY, a man saw my table of hats and requested some for his store. He told me he wanted 50. I told him I could have them ready for him in two weeks and he said, "no, I need them by Friday." It was Sunday when he said that.

The next five days consisted of working my 9-5, crocheting on my train and bus rides to and from and running home to make enough hats for his store. I was able to meet my deadline and was asked for another 50 for the next week. I was glad to know at that moment that my crocheting was a success. I had even built a website with some of my crocheted items. You can access it by visiting:

                  http://melodiaz.0catch.com/hand-made.html

Not shortly after that, a wonderful friend of mine asked me to be his valentine and I decided to crochet him a nice hat as his valentine's day gift. I used three different threads of yarn and combined them together to create a cool style for this hat. Plus I wanted it to be warm because we had a really, cold winter that year. I put it in his gift bag and gave it to him when I saw him.

We spoke on the phone the next day and he said, "I think you left your funky colored hat in my bag." That statement stood out so much to me, that I based the whole entire song around it. The lyrics were written that same day and that is how my song "Crocheted" came to be.  All lyrics and vocals by Stephanie Jeannot. Music by Derrick Smith for BeatlifeLI Productions, Babylon, NY.

Peace and love to you all.
