On the Movie "Michael"

 There is truth to the rumors about the new Michael Jackson Movie. It is a great movie.

If you are or ever have been a fan of the late, Michael Jackson, you probably have a keen interest in seeing the movie, “Michael,” at the movie theatre on the big screen or have seen it already.

I remember years ago, watching a DVD of one of the virtuoso’s live concerts and as soon as he stepped out onto the stage and thrusted his hips, people were passing out and being taken out of the arena on stretchers.

The movie appropriately begins with that very scene when Michael Jackson echoes his iconic phrase, “hee hee,” followed by audience excitement as he enters into an arena, singing “Wanna Be Starting Something.”

You might spend the entire movie tapping your feet on the floor and singing along to his handsome catalog of music. He sang songs that had a global pulse. He stepped boldly into his assignment and made an indelible impression on so many people.

I won’t say that the entire 2 hours and ten minutes is embodied with limitless energy. One minute he was singing his songs and everyone was bopping along and then the next moment was like a symphony of longwindedness. But, what I will say is that, if you decide to check this movie out, go see it through fresh eyes.

While watching, you might find yourself wondering what happened to Diana Ross? Janet, Reba, and LaToya? Instead, the focus was primarily on his unparalleled astounding success, as well as his relationship with his father, his many pets, and his wealth of fans. Each clip delved into his life, studio and recording sessions, rehearsals, song ideas, and etc. Leave your thoughts and ideas of what you knew about his life behind and let this movie be the momentary guide.

Jaafar Jackson does an amazing job at portraying Michael Jackson. The moves, the singing, the look; it was well done. I especially loved Nia Long in her role of Catherine. 

I also enjoyed the behind-the-scenes of the filming of various of his videos. It was cool to see it from his perspective, as if you were there with him. Some other things that stood out to me were the phrases he used like, “music and dance are what we all have in common. It’s a universal language. With it, we can change the world.” Antoine Fuqua did a great job of directing a movie such as “Michael” to get everyone talking the same language while watching this movie. It was worth the watch.

"Michael" definitely left me feeling the MJ Fever. I watched people coming into the movie theatre wearing their best Michael Jackson inspired wardrobe, and when the film was over, I watched almost everyone either moonwalking out of the room or walking out echoing one of his classic tunes.
