Things you Can Do On An Extremely Long Train Ride

Who said that you cannot have fun on a train when your destination is eight hours or more away?

Many people might say that they could sleep the entire way and be okay. But not everyone is an eight-hours a night sleeper who can drift in lala land even through earthquakes that might wake everybody else up.

For those who find no fun in sleeping, then you might be like me, gazing out the window and looking at your watch every ten minutes as if that would speed things up. What could I gain from sleeping when my eyes were looking at the most beautiful waterways, mountains and trees? I might have missed something spectacular that needed to be photographed.

And so while I was in Russia and aboard the train going from Novorossiysk to Rostov, here is how I killed time to make the ride go just a little bit smoother without me getting bored.

What do you do on long train rides? Let me know. . .

    1. It's such an interesting experience. That was my first time ever on a long train. I have to say, it was not as bad as I expected. I would like to say I am someone who cannot sit still for a long time, LOL, but I did it.

  2. I have a long flight coming up on Friday to South America and then 5 days later an 8 hour bus ride from one country to the other. Needless to say, I'm definitely looking for "what to do" solutions, especially since my 3 kids, aged 5, 3, and 1 will be joining my husband and I on the adventure. You have a gorgeous voice! I'd love to go to Russia some day... but maybe without the long train ride, lol.

    1. Wow! I think that is a really long flight right. I watched four movies on my 10 hour flight. Back to back. Couldn't sleep a wink.

  3. How fun! What a great experience you have had recently. I agree, long travel days are exhausting so finding something to kill the time is important. I usually just read my books.

  4. We've been thinking about taking a train up to my parents. It would make the trip more enjoyable for me (the driver.) I wonder if we could get the whole car involved in a sing-a-long. Thank you for sharing your voice.

    1. I totally agree. That way, you can sit back and relax and let someone else do the driving.

  5. I wish I could travel with someone who has a beautiful voice like you, that would help make the time fly by! I usually doodle or read, sometimes I write every state out in alphabetical order and then write the capitals next to it, that kills a lot of time.

  6. You have such a beautiful voice. The longest train ride I have ever been on is from Detroit to Chicago. You certainly need to find something to occupy your time.

  8. I actually love traveling by train. I use the time when I am on a long train ride in several ways. I like to read, knit, watch movies, people watch and of course eat!

  9. While I have no reason for a train ride, I do spend a lot of time in the car when hubby and I go on road trips. These ideas will be just as beneficial then. I do enjoy reading out on the road more than anything.

    1. Sometimes getting on the train is a great option to enjoy relaxing. We all deserve it sometimes. Even from being behind the wheel.

  10. During long flights and train rides, I usually just sleep or listen to interesting podcast and discuss the essential points with a friend. Taking the time to look through the window could be so boring for me, especially when all that can be seen outside are greens or bodies of water.
